Alex and Rem’s summer solstice elopement in Joshua Tree National Park was about as perfect as they come! Full of love, simplicity, and adventure, it perfectly captured their essence as a couple: intimate, meaningful, and deeply connected to nature—and, of course, with their beloved dog Bodhi by their side.

Alex found the most beautifully aesthetic Airbnb to get ready in. Bodhi played fetch and supervised hair and makeup. Rem zipped his bride into her dress and carried her bouquet and veil around the park for her. We were able to find the exact location Alex had been dreaming of taking her wedding photos at & we were gifted with a perfect golden hour just like she hoped for. And when the sun finally set on their summer solstice elopement we ended the night with cake and champagne for 2 (+1 photographer 3rd wheel because I can never pass up dessert.) Days like these are why I will always love elopements. No stress, no strict timeline, no rules. Just love!

Tips for Eloping in a National Park

If Alex and Rem’s story has you dreaming of your own national park elopement, here are some tips to make it a smooth and unforgettable experience:

  1. Choose the Right Location
National parks are vast and diverse, so take the time to research spots that resonate with you as a couple. Joshua Tree’s dramatic desert landscapes were perfect for Alex and Rem, but each park has its own unique charm.
  2. Plan Ahead for Permits
Most national parks require a special use permit for weddings and elopements. Be sure to apply well in advance, as permits can take weeks to process.
  3. Be Mindful of the Environment
Follow Leave No Trace principles to ensure your celebration doesn’t harm the park. Stick to designated trails, avoid disturbing wildlife, and pack out all trash.
  4. Consider the Weather
Desert parks like Joshua Tree can have extreme temperatures, so plan your ceremony for early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat. Always check the forecast and come prepared.
  5. Bring Your Essentials
Comfortable shoes, water, sunscreen, and snacks are must-haves for a day in the park. Don’t forget your furry friend’s needs if they’ll be joining you, like extra water and a leash.
  6. Make It Yours
Whether it’s including your dog, writing personal vows, or celebrating with cake and champagne, personalize your day to reflect who you are as a couple.

Alex and Rem’s elopement was a testament to how magical a simple, meaningful ceremony can be. If you’re considering a national park elopement, let their story inspire you to create a day that’s perfectly, uniquely yours.
